4.27.14 Community Partnerships for Change [Radio] – Generation Justice

Community partnerships are organizing campaigns for change! Protect and Serve ABQ seeks to inspire constructive community dialogue about the relationship between law enforcement and the ABQ communities they serve. We talk with coordinator Sommer Smith about the campaign’s efforts.

The Re-Food Project seeks to reduce waste at community events by re-using pre-prepared foods, recycling, and composting! Stephanie Grilo of Public Allies NM, Ski Shaski of Knowaste, and Sonya Warwick of Roadrunner Food Bank talk about the project’s work.

A collaboration of community organizations came together to plan this year’s May 1st International Worker’s Day Celebrations at Gateway Park. Michael Butler of La Raza Unida and Sherri Gonzales of SWOP join the show to provide the history and details of the celebrations.

Thank you to Lil’ Threat Audra Blea for letting us play her powerful new song, “Tree of Blood – RIP Mary” about the death of Mary Hawkes, who she had mentored.
