Ponca City and the Toxic Tour – Generation Justice

This is video 2 of a series of 4 that make up a video journal. The KUNM Youth Radio Project attended the 2010 US Social Forum in Detroit, MI, June 2010, by way of the People’s Freedom Caravan (PFC), organized by The SouthWest Organizing Project (SWOP), Southwest Workers Union (SWU) and Southern Echo. The PFC stopped in various communities along the way to the 2010 USSF, where the Caravan Freedom Riders stood in solidarity with the activists and grass roots organizers. 

The Ponca City Native American Nations hosted the People’s Freedom Caravan on its first stop in Ponca City, OK. The Freedom Riders went on a toxic tour in Ponca City and saw first hand the pollution and environmental racism inflicted by Conoco Phillips Oil Refinery. The youth react to what they learned on the Toxic Tour and to the Leaders of the Ok, First Nation people. KUNM Youth Radio Project’s Josh Horton interviews Cecilia Frescas, a youth activist at SWOP, and Lucia Martinez, a youth activist at SWOP and a KUNM Youth Radio Producer, about their experience in Ponca City, OK.
